    • Product Description:
    • ● A stainless steel hex plug is a type of threaded pipe plug with a hexagon-shaped head on one end and male threads on the other.
    • It is a "closed" plug that threads into female threads, sealing and 'closing' them.
    • ●This hex-shaped head allows for easy gripping and tightening with a wrench.
    • Used for:
    • Hexagonal plugs are used to thread into and seal off female threaded openings, stopping all flow.
    • The hex head provides a secure gripping surface, allowing them to be 'tightened' and 'loosened' more easily than other threaded pipe plugs.
    • Advantage:
    • The hexagon-shaped head provides a larger surface for a wrench to grip and to apply more torque, which results in a secure seal.
    • This hexagonal head makes it easier to install and remove hex plugs compared to other threaded plugs.
    • This makes these NPT pipe plugs ideal for applications that require regular assembly and disassembly.
    • To Install:
    • ● Thread the male threaded end into a female threaded opening of the same size.
    • The hex-shaped head provides a surface for a wrench or other tool, making it easy to tighten or loosen.
    • Item Sizing:
    • A hex plug's size is based on the size of the female thread it will thread into.
    • For Example, A  1" threaded plug will have 1" male threads and will install into 1" female threads.
    • Also referred to as:
    • ● Hex Pipe Plug.
    • Hex Head Plug NPT.
    • Threaded Hex Head Plug.
    • Other Options:
    • ● Other options include Square Head Plugs, which are also threaded plugs, except they have a square-shaped head.
    • ● Scroll down to "Related Products" for more options on NPT pipe plugs.
    • ● Another similar option is a Threaded Pipe Cap, which is also used to seal and protect threaded openings.
    • ● Scroll down to "Upsell Products" for more options on pipe caps.
    • Materials of Construction:
    • These threaded plugs are manufactured with Stainless Steel 304 & 316

    What is a Hex Plug?

A hex plug is a pipe fitting used to seal or close a female threaded opening. It is used to seal female threaded fittings or pipes, effectively stopping the flow. Essentially, it is a short pipe plug with male threads on one end and a hexagonal-shaped head that forms a closed plug on the other end. It is called "hex" because of the shape of the hexagonal head, which has six sides. This ‘hexagonal’ design provides a secure gripping surface, which enables it to be easily tightened and loosened with a tool such as a wrench. This makes these threaded plugs ideal for applications where frequent assembly and disassembly are required.

What is a Hex Plug Used For?

It is used to terminate pipe ends and female threaded openings in order to stop the flow, seal openings, or to protect internal threads. They are used to block off unused threaded ports and are used whenever openings need to be plugged or temporarily sealed. They can be used to allow for maintenance, facilitate testing, or to keep threads and openings safe for future expansion

Where is a Hex Plug Used?

Hexagonal plugs are commonly used in a wide array of industries, including industrial piping systems, plumbing, manufacturing, chemicals, oil and gas, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, to secure threaded openings and to keep them closed and sealed.

    Types of Pipe Plugs?

Threaded pipe plugs are mechanical pipe plugs that are usually used for long-term and permanent installations. These different types include a Hex Head: which has hexagon shaped head for tightening with a wrench; a Square Head: has a protruding square shaped head for tightening with a socket or wrench; a Hex Socket: hexagonal shaped recess for flush installation with a hex key; a Square Socket: square shaped recess for flush installation with a socket; a Slotted Plug: has a slot for installation with screwdriver; and a Six Lobe Plug: with a special six lobed recess. These NPT plugs have male threaded ends, which are usually NPT threads ( National Pipe Threads) in the U.SA.  NPT threads are tapered and form a leak-proof seal when correctly installed.

    Bull Plug vs Hex Plug

Hexagon plugs and bull plugs are similar in that they are both threaded plugs used to plug female threads and thereby closing and sealing openings. They differ in their appearance in that ball plugs have a rounded head and are designed to be easily installed by hand for low-pressure applications. In contrast, hexagonal plugs have a six-sided head that provides a gripping surface that can be tightened more securely with a socket or wrench, making them better suited for higher-pressure applications.

Why are Stainless Steel Pipe Plugs the Best?

Stainless steel threaded plugs are the top choice of all the metal pipe plugs due to their excellent corrosion resistance: making then suitable for harsh environments and chemical exposure; high strength: making them able to withstand high pressures; durability: allowing them to handle stresses and have a long service life; temperature resistance: suitable for high and low temperature extremes; minimal maintenance: their robust nature and rust resistance means they require little to no upkeep over time; hygienic: it is a clean metal with no lead or leaching suitable for food grade applications. Stainless Steel is also offered in the 304 grade, which is about the same price as brass, making it a cost-effective option and over time will be price-competitive with the other cheaper metals.
