- Product Description:
- ● A stainless steel hose barb is a pipe fitting with threads on one end and a cylindric hose shank with barbs on the other end.
- ● Between the pipe threads and the hose shank is a hex bolt shaped head for easy loosening and tightening
- Used for:
- ● Barbed hose fittings are used to connect hoses and tubes to pipes, fittings and other components.
- ● In effect hose barb fittings are used connect pipe threads to a hose or tube.
- Advantage:
- ● A hose barb has a hex shaped head near the threads that provides for extra gripping power.
- ● This makes them easier to tighten and loosen which provides an advantage over King Nipples.
- To Install:
- ● Thread the external male thread into a female thread of the same size.
- ● Install the hose shank into a hose end of the same size and fasten with a crimp collar or hose clamp.
- Item Sizing:
- ● Hose barbs are sized by the size of the thread or hose they will connect to.
- ● For Example: A 1-1/2" barb fitting will have a 1-1/2" male thread and connect to a 1-1/2" hose.
- ● A hose barb reducer is sized by stating the thread size first, followed by the hose shank size.
- ● For Example: A 3/8" x 1/4" barbed reducer will have a 3/8" Male thread and a 1/4" hose shank.
- Also referred to as:
- ● Hose Nipple.
- ● Barbed Fitting.
- Other Options:
- ● Other options include KC Nipples which are also barbed pipe fittings except they have no hex head near the male threads.

- Materials of Construction:
- ● Manufactured with Stainless Steel 304 & 316
More Information:
Hose barbs are threaded hose fittings used to install threads into a hose or tube which enables tubes and hoses to connect to fittings, pipes, ball valves, pumps and other equipment and components. They are cylindrical in shape typically with male threads on one end and a hose shank with ridges or barbs on the other end. The hex head between the threads and the hose shank makes it easier for this threaded barb fitting to be tightened or removed with a wrench or socket. The male threads will screw into female thread of the same size, and hose shank will install into a hose end or tube end of the same size. The hose shank portion is cylindrical with ridges or barbs that once inserted into a hose, grips the inside of the hose and forms a water tight seal. Once the hose shank portion is inserted into a hose it is fastened with a hose clamp or crimp collar. In this way a barbed hose fitting is used to put thread onto a hose or to install a hose onto a threaded component. The National Pipe thread (NPT) on these NPT barbed fittings are tapered which ensure a secure and tight connection when screwed together with the corresponding thread. Unlike king combination (KC) nipples these threaded hose barbs have a hex shaped head near the threads which makes it easier for them to be tightened and loosened . This makes them ideal for application where they will need to be removed or securely tightened. These barb hose fittings are constructed out of Stainless Steel 304 and 316 making them rust and corrosion resistant, resistant to many chemicals as well as ensuring a long service life. Stainless steel barbed hose fittings are widely used in plumbing and fluid handling applications where they are used to adapt hose or tube ends to threaded connections.
