    • Product Description:
    • A stainless steel union fitting is a type of pipe coupling with female threads on either end and a central nut between them.
    • ● It consists of two female threaded ends with a nut in the center that draws the two ends together to create a seal.
    • Used for:
    • ● A pipe union fitting is used to connect two pipes, threaded fittings, or other components.
    • Most commonly used to connect two pipes in a straight line in a way that doesn't require the pipe to be turned or rotated during installation.
    • Advantage:
    • This cylindrical pipe fitting consists of three parts: two threaded ends that connect to a pipe or fitting, and a central nut that tightens them together.
    • This 3-part design allows for easy disconnection and reconnection, making them ideal for applications where regular maintenance or modifications are required.
    • They are easy to install by simply threading each of the ends onto a pipe without having to turn or rotate the pipe, then sealing the connection by tightening the nut.
    • To Install:
    • ● Thread one of the internal female threads onto a male thread of the same size.
    • Then thread the other end in the same way.
    • Lastly, tighten the central nut, which will connect the two ends.
    • Item Sizing:
    • A threaded union fitting size is based on the size of the thread it will connect to.
    • For Example: A  1"pipe union will have 1" female threads and connect to 1" male threads.
    • Also referred to as:
    • ● Union Pipe.
    • NPT Union.
    • Union Joint.
    • Union Connectors.
    • Other Options:
    • ● Other options include Pipe Couplings, which don't have a rotating hex head between the female threads.
    • Other options include Bell Reducers, which are also pipe connectors, except they have different-sized threads on either end.
    • ● Scroll down to "Related Products" for more options on threaded pipe connector fittings.
    • Materials of Construction:
    • These threaded connectors are manufactured with Stainless Steel 304 & 316.

    What is a Pipe Union?

A union fitting is a pipe connector that is used to join two pipes in a straight line and enables them to be easily connected and disconnected. Pipe unions comprise three parts, which include two threaded ends and a tightening nut in the center that, when tightened, draws the two ends together to form a leak-proof connection. This design allows for quick assembly and disassembly, making union connections well-suited for applications where regular maintenance, replacement, or modifications are required. This is in contrast to standard couplings, which are often used as more permanent pipe connectors. Manufactured out of stainless steel 304 and 316, they are robust and corrosion-resistant. These threaded pipe connectors are widely used where flexibility and accessibility are required in industrial applications, including piping systems, HVAC, and plumbing.

How does a pipe union work?

Union couplings usually have female threads on both ends that screw onto the male threads of the pipes or fittings they connect to. Once both ends are connected, the central nut is tightened, which draws these two pipe sections together and creates a leak-proof seal. To disconnect the pipe sections, loosen the central nut, which allows the two pipes to be separated. To reconnect the pipes, bring the pipe ends together and tighten the central nut again. One of the biggest advantages of this three-piece design is that the pipes are not turned or rotated during installation, which enables maintenance or modifications to be performed without disturbing the piping system.

    Coupling vs Union:

Both threaded couplings and unions are used to connect pipes and male threaded fittings. Whereas a coupling is just a short pipe with internal threads on either end, a union is made out of three parts. A coupling is generally used in permanent applications where it is not expected to be disassembled or taken apart. Whereas a union is used if the system may require future maintenance, replacement, or modifications. A union is also used when the existing piping system cannot be disturbed, meaning that the pipes cannot be moved or rotated.
