A 3-piece ball valve is a type of valve that has three body parts, a main body and two pipe connector ends. The central body houses the ball, seals and stem. The pipe connector ends are usually threaded, socket weld, or flanged. Three piece valves are used to control the flow in applications that require frequent maintenance or cleaning. This three piece design allows for easy disassembly of the main body part without removing the connector ends from the pipeline, thus improving maintenance time since the entire valve does not have to be removed from the installation. Beside this time saving for maitanance, a three piece valve also saves long term costs since it is less expensive to replace components than it is to replace the entire valve.
