• Description:
• A two piece 304 ball valve is a type of ball valve constructed out of two separate body pieces that are joined together by threads.
• It has two openings that function as end connections that are usually female threads.
• It has a lever handle to operate the open or close function manually with a quarter turn.
• Uses:
• Commonly used where an economical or low-cost full port valve option is required. (Can be used to replace brass ball valves)
• Used to control the flow of fluid or gas in an application by rotating a ball that has a hole or port in its center.
• Used whenever a simple ‘open’ or ‘close’ of the flow is required, which is why it is considered a type of shut off valve.
• Used to control bidirectional flow (2 way flow), can shut off the flow in both directions.
• Although not designed for throttling, in some situations they can be used to regulate flow rate by a process called ‘throttling’ which involves opening the valve to various degrees. (Can lead to accelerated wear and tear.)
• Advantages:

• Pressure rated at 1000 PSI WOG (for Water, Oil, or Gas).
• Port Size:
• Full port, also known as a full bore.
• This means that the port size of the valve is the same size as the pipe internal diameter that the valve connects to.
• The full port design minimizes flow restriction and pressure drop.
• Thread:
• These WOG ball valves have Female NPT threads on both the inlet and outlet ends.
• Construction:
• Valve body is made out of two separate pieces that are joined together through a threaded connection.
• Maintenance:
• Generally under optimal conditions they don’t require maintenance.

A 2-piece 304 ball valve is a popular type of full port ball valve made up of two body sections joined together by threading. This design enables the valve to be disassembled exposing the internal components for cleaning, maintenance and repair. The internal components include the ball, stem and seals. The most common of the internal components to be replaced are the seals, also called the seats or body gaskets. It is generally not recommended to unthread the valve body as damaged can during during disassembly. For this reason it is generally a better option replace the complete valve. However, with the correct ‘know how’ and tools, like a vice and wrench, the two piece valve can be disassembled for service and repair. They have to be removed from the pipe for maintenance and cannot be repaired in-line like a 3-Piece version. They have Female NPT threads making them easy to install. NPT threads are designed to make a tight seal and are not always easy to unscrew. Their relative compact size makes them suitable for confined areas where space is limited and access restricted. They are used to transfer various fluids and gases, their full bore makes them suitable for viscous fluids, suspension solutions and slurries. Widely used in applications requiring bidirectional flow control and a reliable shut-off. Commonly used in a wide range of industries including plumbing, water treatment, fuel and oil, chemical processing, and are also widely used by original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s).
